Hurricane Delta should start making its turn today to head more northward causing conditions to become worse with time mainly during the day Friday and mainly along and west of the Mississippi River.
Delta is expected to move inland Friday evening as a strong hurricane over Southwest Louisiana. Tropical storm conditions for the western portion of our area will be through early Saturday and slowly improve through the remainder of the day Saturday.
As the feeder bands of Delta push through Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi late Friday night and Saturday morning, there is a “Slight Risk” (threat level 2 out of 5) for severe weather. The main concern is the potential for tornadoes embedded in the line of showers and storms pushing onshore, but some gusty winds of 40 to 50 mph cannot be ruled out either.
Delta is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by late Saturday as it moves through Northeast Louisiana.
A cold front is then expected to move through the area Tuesday or Wednesday.
