Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford had a secret affair that lasted for three months. When the relationship ended, they continued to work together on several Star Wars films. However, Fisher decided to admit to the adulterous acts in 2016.
In addition to sharing details about their romance, Fisher said that Ford introduced her to a new habit during shooting.
Carrie Fisher wrote in a journal during the Harrison Ford affair
Star Wars was Fisher’s first major role. The actor became a star after she played Princess Leia in the introductory film. When she landed in London to shoot the movie, Fisher met Ford. In her 2016 memoir, The Princess Diarist, Fisher said that while Ford was attractive, she knew she didn’t have a chance. She said their age difference made him unobtainable at first. However, Ford surprised Fisher when he kissed her in the back of his car outside of a pub.

The kiss between Ford and Fisher started their off-screen affair. During the brief relationship, Fisher documented her feelings for Ford in a journal. The journal eventually became Fisher’s 2016 memoir, The Princess Diarist.
“There was Harrison, and there was me,” Fisher wrote of Ford. “Both three months away from home. On location where you were free to do what neither of you would do when surrounded by your all-too-loving family and all-too-observant friends. Where everything and everyone around you was interesting and new. Where you have all sorts of new people now focused on you and how you are feeling.”

The Princess Diarist included details of Fisher’s affair with Ford from her perspective. Although she remembered her feelings about the relationship at the time, she admitted that her memory wasn’t clear after the affair ended. In the book, Fisher the pair’s frequent marijuana use during the affair altered her memory.
“How can I paint for you the picture of this brief three-month break in the bad weather of no feeling? Sadly, I cannot. And this is not because of the memory loss that typically comes with age—though that is a distinct factor. It is the memory loss that comes with marijuana use,” she wrote.
“Though in this case, it is not the long-term use that has deprived me of the recollections from these months from long ago,” she continued. “It is the three-month ingestion of what seemed to me to be the brutal strength of Harrison’s preferred strain of pot.”
Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford only smoked on weekends
Fisher and Ford’s marijuana sessions lasted as long as their affair. They decided to continue smoking together when filming wrapped for the weekend. The marijuana soon became too much for Fisher to handle, and she recalled having “paranoia” about their relationship.
“I experienced between waking and sleeping, trying to think of something to say other than “Do you love me?” or “Why are you with me at all?” or “Do you know your lines for next week?” or “Can I get you another beer?” Fisher wrote.

Eventually, Ford and Fisher’s affair ended when the first Star Wars wrapped. Fisher confirmed in her memoir that she never smoked marijuana again after the split.
“Though there has been some speculation regarding my drug use during Star Wars, I used nothing other than Harrison’s pot on the weekends during that first film,” Fisher said. “After that, marijuana was no longer possible for me—it had such a powerful, all-consuming effect on me that I have never used that drug again.”
