Exactly where there’s smoke … Fire leads cops to marijuana crop

WHEN police had been named out to a structural fire at Tiaro, they discovered a lot more than they bargained for.

Maryborough Magistrates Court heard the discovery of a firearm and dried cannabis leaf at the website sparked an urgent search which uncovered 456 marijuana plants.

Craig Lawrence Wilson pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possessing ammunition, possessing risky drugs, making risky drugs and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The court heard police also discovered scissors applied to chop up the marijuana he had grown, a homemade silencer and a Winchester rifle in a camper on the home.

The firearm was mentioned to be applied to shoot paper targets and not for something malicious.

The majority of the cannabis plants discovered at the home had been seedlings, the court was told.

Wilson had a robust perform history and various healthcare challenges he was dealing with.

He had preceding criminal history, but no new convictions had been recorded in 13 years.

He had also co-operated with police in the course of their inquiries.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler told Wilson to keep out of problems.

He warned that just after 456 plants had been discovered at his home, there was each and every likelihood police would verify up on Wilson once more.

Wilson was fined $2500 and convictions had been recorded.
